Visitors to August’s Lowlands 2011 (a Dutch music and culture festival in Biddinghuizen) got a chance to flex their green thumbs at the vertical edible guerrilla gardening installation. We showed how to make seed bombs, garden without land, make their own natural remedies and more. We joined in the guerrilla gardening movement – which consists of small actions that help to beautify neglected bits of urban space – with workshops that helped festivalgoers turn Lowlands into one big garden.
Premsela commissioned Ester van de Wiel to create its Lowlands guerrilla gardening programme in collaboration with students at the Design Academy Eindhoven. The Amsterdam agency Featuring designed and built the installation, which was covered in edible plants that we used over the three days of the festival.
